This is a “living book” and updates can be found at www.endofgrowth.com (although this just takes you to http://richardheinberg.com/!). For your money you get 322 pages including Acknowledgements, an Introduction of ten parts followed by 7 chapters broken down into 48 topic-based sections, Notes and Index. The inside cover bristles with “advance praise” (how does that work?) from the likes of Herman E Daly, Lester Brown, Bill McKibben, Caroline Lucas and James Gustav Speth. This is Heinberg’s sixth major outing in print. His seminal work “The Party’s Over” has been a springboard for countless thousands of people who previously didn’t comprehend what Peak OIl meant for them. Continue reading

“Transition In Action” by Transition Town Totnes

ISBN 978-1-900322-85-0. “Transition In Action – Totnes and District 2030 – An Energy Descent Action Plan” was published in 2010 by Transition Town Totnes. It was scripted and edited by Jacqui Hodgson with Rob Hopkins. It is a meaty piece of work in floppy-cover, A4-sized paper, with 310 pages in glorious colour. The rear cover bristles with praise from the likes of Jonathan Porritt and Richard Heinberg. In content you get acknowledgements, a dedication, introduction, a “How to use” guide, four major sections consisting of sixty-two separate chapters, as well as appendices, references, glossary and credits. Hamilton School Fete 2012

It is easy being in Transition but not when your gazebo wants to be a kite. The day was Saturday 16th June and the event was our stall at the Hamilton School Fete. We erected the stall little realising that it would turn into quite an adventurous day. Or maybe that should read “torturous”. “A Game as Old as Empire” edited by Steven Hiatt

ISBN 978-1-57675-395-8 “A Game as Old as Empire – The Secret World of Economic Hit Men and the Web of Global Corruption” was published in 2007 by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. The introduction is by John Perkins (author of “Confessions of an Economic Hitman“) and this compilation was edited by Steven Hiatt. It consists of twelve stories by thirteen authors. “Economic hit men (EHMs)” wrote John Perkins in his 2004 book “play a game as old as empire” from which the title of this follow-up comes. “Confessions” was a bestseller and helped introduce many people to the concept of economic imperialism as deliberate ploy by the strong over the weak.
